The Former Speaker of the Republic of South Africa’s National Assembly, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has driven and turned herself in to the authorities this Thursday morning 4 April 2024. After her attempt to avoid prosecution was denied and after police had a stake out outside her house monitoring her movements, Nosiviwe decided to atone for her accusations and surrender herself to the authorities.

Users online are considering this event historical as many politicians tend to get away with corruption. Nosiviwe had one of the highest ranks in parliament being a former minister of defense, as well as her last position of speaker of the National Assembly making her fourth in line from the president when looking at the political hierarchy. She faces charges of bribery and corruption.

Nosiviwe Mapisa Nqakula arrived at Lyttelton Police Station in Centurion this morning. She is currently in custody. Reports that she allegedly received bribes from Umkhombe Marine Chief executive,Nombasa Ntsondwa-Ndhlovu. Umkhombe Marine was awarded contracts worth more than R200 million when Mapisa - Nqakula was minister of defense.

“Nosiviwe must refuse to go down alone, she must sing a nice song.” This is from an X user implying that she was not the only beneficiary in this scandal. Video clips from 2021 of General Mhkwanazi warning Nosiviwe about lying to the public and that it will have consequences in the future. It seems as if Nosiviwe’s situation may have a domino effect in the sense that other members of the ANC may finally have their day in court. All there is now is a video of Nosiviwe her car leaving her residency on her way to Lyttelton Police Station for the law to take its course.
